Cloudcroft, Alamogordo, Ruidoso , New Mexico

The temperatures in Louisiana right now are not my favorite but……

I googled the coolest places with the closest distance and Cloudcroft & Ruidoso came up. We drove the first day to Abilene and arrived right as a dust storm appeared. Gregg went to get something to eat while the dogs and I hunkered down because the dust storm was followed by a thunderstorm. The second story rocked like I was in the RV and out went the lights. Gregg made it back and with his phone light made it up the stairs to the room. When we arrived it was 20 below in our room and I guess that’s why we were comfortable all night because we left the next morning still without electricity. They did comp our room which was nice.

We missed the Fourth of July celebration and the Christmas in July Festival this weekend but we are ok because we were coming for the cool weather.

Now there is not much to see til you get there and as close as 40 miles away, I was still searching for the mountains but out they popped and ( this time) Mr. Google was right. It dropped from 88° to 59° in a very short amount of time.

Our little cabin in Cloudcroft is a nice little one room with a bath.

How about this frig. ,sink, stove combo? Cloudcroft is definitely a tourist town. Cabins pepper the mountain sides.

We got up Monday & on the way saw these beauties. This elk still has velvet on his horns.

We then headed to White Sand National Park and walked a trail & watched some folks sledding down the dunes. ( it was hot there 88°)

Long sleeves needed when we left Cloudcroft but hot here.

Then we drove to Alamogordo, to the home of the World’s Largest Pistachio and bought several flavors & then to get pecans.We drove 28 short miles back to Cloudcroft where it was 70°.
