Temperature stayed in 70’s today. Catawba Rhododendron that are at full bloom in May and Pink Shell Azaleas (which only grow in North Carolina) we’re everywhere. Baptist Churches seem to be the majority and even though I didn’t take pictures, there were barn quilts on many homes. We hiked to Mile High Swinging Bridge. The wind blew at 35 mpg. ( Not good on a swinging bridge or mountain top) Our last stop was Twin Falls then back to camp to the water to swim and float. The day ended with a rain shower and cooking s’mores.

Due to a scheduling conflict, Tom Hanks’ brother, Jim Hanks, filled in for the movie star during a clear October Saturday in 1993 when the filming took place.That day, Grandfather Mountain staff had been informed that Tom Hanks’ brother was going to be his running double since the actor was working on a film in South Carolina at the time. Yet much to the surprise of Grandfather Mountain staff, Tom Hanks showed up anyway. He ended up having a day off from filming and was so inconspicuous that only one staff member actually spoke with him. She wouldn’t have known who he was if he had not introduced himself.
